The Summer of 2001 was a memorable one for Clwb Rygbi Dinbych. From the 4th - 11th August 2001, our Club took responsibility for the car parking at the National Eisteddfod. A large group of volunteers representing CRD performed their role with such diligence that reference was made on the hallowed stage of the main pavilion regarding the high quality of our work– praise indeed! It also proved to be an excellent opportunity for members to get to know each other – and form lifelong friendships. The whole occasion was an outstanding success.
As I’m sure many of you are aware the Urdd National Eisteddfod (an event for people aged 25 and younger) is coming to Denbigh , from Sunday, 29th May to Saturday 4th June and will be held in the same location as the 2001 National Eisteddfod i.e. on the fields of Kilford Farm. Clwb Rygbi Dinbych is proud that we have been selected to repeat our role as car parking organisers and stewards.
Thus, to the purpose of this communication. To ensure the success of our car park stewarding project, we respectfully request your support and would like as many people as possible to help out by undertaking one/two/three/four or more sessions as car park stewards. Please see below the schedule. On average, we need a minimum of 16 stewards per time slot (this figure will may vary slightly dependent on ‘peak times’ and ‘quieter times’). You will notice that the time slots for stewarding (with one exception) are divided into two hour slots. In 2001, some individuals volunteered for one two hour time slot on each of a number of days, whilst others undertook three or four sessions on one day. The choice is yours! Whatever time commitment you can make, we would be really grateful.
Please note that if you have friends or family who would like to become a steward, please send in their details also. But don’t forget to ask their permission first! It should be noted that for safety reasons, the minimum age for stewards directing any vehicles will be 18.
For the 2001 Eisteddfod, some Club members were concerned about their lack of communication skills in the medium of Welsh; there was no need to worry. All volunteers coped with the linguistic demands. As noted in the Urdd Eisteddfod guidelines,
‘A significant number of visitors will be Welsh speakers, therefore a number of the parking stewards should either be fluent Welsh speakers, have basic Welsh language skills or be willing to learn basic phrases of greeting.’
I can promise that you will enjoy the occasion, not only by the friends that you’ll make but also by being safe in the knowledge that you will have contributed to the promotion of the good name of Clwb Rygbi Dinbych.
