RIP Phil Bennett

A few words in memoriam of the late Phil Bennett from Clwb Rygbi Dinbych founding member Mr Jeff Jenkins:
Everyone at Clwb Rygbi Dinbych will be saddened to have heard of the passing of Llanelli, Wales and British & Irish Lions legend Phil Bennett.
Clwb Rygbi Dinbych were honoured to have had Phil as the Guest of Honour for their Silver Anniversary Dinner held in Denbigh Town Hall in 2003. For such a legend of the game he was to all those present an unassuming and approachable personality as apart from giving his prepared speech he spent much of the evening in conversation with everyone who regaled him with questions.
He showed a great interest in the Club and was aware of the costs of running a community club including the cost of organising such an important event as that evening. In reality his presence cost the Club nothing as he brought some of his own memorabilia with him for the Club to auction during the evening which covered his costs.
How many other guests would have thought of doing something like that?
A true legend in every sense of the word and a sad loss to the world of rugby.
