Plenty of positives in defeat to a strong Mold 2nd XV

In a free flowing high scoring game producing a dozen tries with the visitors scored eight tries for a bonus point victory with Dinbych themselves notching four of their own to gain a losing bonus point. For much of the match play was fairly even with the Dinbych pack doing well at the set scrums and generating some powerful driving mauls. Mold however took advantage of some less than effective tackling by Dinbych often breaking the first line of defence then allied to good support play to score the majority of their tries from counter-attacks from their own half.

Mold opened the scoring after five minutes with the first of their attacks from inside their own half with left wing Jake Edwards going over in the corner for an unconverted try. The visitors increased their lead midway through the half when centre Sean Hughes added a second unconverted try. Dinbych opened their scoring in the 22nd minute when prop Chris Griffiths finished off a driving maul from a short range line out by going over near the corner for a try converted with an excellent kick from wide out by outside half Ryan Devenport. Mold replied almost immediately with a try by No.8 Toby Lawson from a line out near halfway. This was converted by outside half Ollie Owen. The visitors added their fourth and bonus point try on the stroke of half time when lock Isaac Halton went over for an unconverted try giving the a lead by 22 points to 7 at the interval.

Dinbych started well in the second half scoring in the second minute with a try by flanker Aled Evans-Hughes following a line out which was again converted by Ryan Devenport. Mold replied with a second try by Toby Lawson, this time a solo effort from his own 22. This was converted by Ollie Owen before Dinbych again replied with a try in the corner by centre Will Jones.

Midway through the half Mold broke out from their own half with Sean Hughes going over for his second try converted by Ollie Owen. They added another long distance breakaway try with good support play enabling scrum half Lewis Craft to score with Scott Ferguson adding the conversion points. Dinbych replied when lock Gwern Pierce, who was outstanding throughout, went over for a losing bonus point try following a short range line out with Ryan Devenport adding the conversion points. Mold closed the scoring just before the final whistle when Toby Lawson went over for a converted hat trick try.
