Dinbych’s unbeaten run at the top of Division 2 North continued with a bonus point victory over Teirw Nant in another closely contested match between the sides. It also gained revenge for their only loss so far against the visitors in an earlier season WRU Cup tie. Much of the credit should go to the work of the forwards. They provided a solid platform to work from in the scrums whilst winning vital line out possession from Flanker Gwern Pierce and Locks Jamie and Dan Williams who was making his debut. They also generated powerful individual and collective forward drives leading to two of their scores with Hooker Tom Davies touching down for both.
It was the visitors who first opened the scoring capitalising on a number of errors by Dinbych leading to a scrum near the home line. From this the visitors recycled possession several times before Lock Aron Thomas crashed over in the corner for an unconverted try. Dinbych replied when the pack generated a powerful forward drive from a short range line out with Hooker Tom Davies touching down for an unconverted try. Dinbych then took the lead when skipper Dan O’Sullivan made a strong break from near half way before putting Centre Tom Seddon over in the corner for a try with O’Sullivan adding the extras with an excellent conversion. Nant then drew level just before the interval with a try from a short range tap penalty courtesy of their Scrum Half Deio Williams, with his half back partner Jac Ellis adding the extras to make it 12-12.
Dinbych went into the lead early in the second half when the forwards attacked from short range through a number of powerful drives starting with Prop Ashley Liversidge and ending with Tom Davies going over for his second try with Dan O’Sullivan converting. Dinbych extended their lead immediately from the restart, with No.8 Robin Williams fielding the ball and driving Dinbych out of their 22. The ball was recycled into midfield where Full Back Gruff Roberts used his pace and changes of direction to slice through the Nant defence for a typical try near the posts which Dan O’Sullivan converted.
Nant battled to the very end and got their reward in the final minute of the game, replacement Flanker Osian Dobson crashed over to setup his Fly Half Jac Ellis for a conversion to secure a 7 point losing bonus point. Ellis spliced the uprights and referee Dr Craig Roberts signalled the end of an entertaining fixture at Maes Terry Bryer.
