Dinbych had to work hard to secure a bonus point victory over a competitive Shotton side having to play the whole of the second half down to 14 players as a result of conceding a string of penalties from a combination of offences mainly in the contact and breakdown areas.

Dinbych dominated the opening quarter of an hour and opened the scoring in the 6th minute when they pressurised Shotton close to their line in the right hand corner. Following a short range scrum outside half and skipper Dan O’Sullivan cross kicked to the opposite corner where left wing Aidyn Jones won the ball in the air to cross for an unconverted try. Dinbych increased their lead in the 10th minute when right wing Kieran Bonar broke down the touchline from halfway before passing inside for centre Tom Seddon to go over for a try converted by Dan O’Sullivan.

Shotton opened their scoring in the 16th minute when outside half Sihlalo Benge cut through to score a try following a quickly taken short range tap penalty. Dinbych replied and increased their lead when Aidyn Jones went over for his second unconverted try after another good attack involving both backs and forwards Liam Allsup and Narmer EL-Lamie. Shotton responded well with their second try from another short range tap penalty when prop Karl Jones went over for a try converted by centre Steve Elson.

Dinbych closed the first half scoring just before the interval when right wing Kieran Bonar was released on a touchline sprint from near half way beating the covering defence to cross for Dinbych’s fourth and bonus point try converted by Dan O’Sullivan.

Leading by 24 points to 12 at the second half Dinbych were soon up against it as they were reduced to 14 players because of their earlier indiscretions. The forwards however still managed to hold their own in the set pieces whilst the overall defence held out until midway through the half when Shotton scored their third try from yet another short range tap penalty when No.8 Huw Sargeant forced his way over for a try converted by Sihlalo Benge. This brought the visitors within one score of Dinbych.

Dinbych were undeterred and the backs again showed their ability to score from distance with Tom Seddon finishing off another long range attack for a try converted by Dan O’Sullivan. Dinbych’s sixth and final was scored by full back Gruff Roberts who made a break on the blind side of a scrum just inside the visitor’s 22 to score an unconverted try in the corner.
