Plenty of positives for Dinbych’s Youth

A big crowd at Caeau Les Philips turned out to watch another local derby for the club Youth side. They were treated to a match of absolute commitment and a clash of styles. The team, led as ever from the front by captain, Ioan Jones, did themselves and their club proud in maintaining an absolute commitment to play rugby throughout the game. Dinbych brought a structure in attack that is allowing the boys to express themselves increasingly and stand out performances from Man of the Match Jac Evans, scrum half Luke Jones together with some hard carrying from Cai Davies in the second row allowed Denbigh to dominate large swathes of territory and possession. This repeated pressure, combined with poor discipline by the visitors and an excellent display of refereeing, produced 2 penalty tries for Dinbych. However, a clinical execution of their limited opportunities saw the visitors take the spoils. Lots to be positive about moving forward and areas to improve in. Well done lads.

Dinbych started well pinning Mold in their own 22 through their attacking play in the opening minutes and were only held out by strong defending by Mold. The visitors then took the lead against the run of play when they broke out with a counterattack and after several phases of play finished by scoring an unconverted try in the right hand corner. Dinbych continues to have the better both in territory and possession but Mold took advantage of their more limited opportunities by increasing their lead with a converted try from a quickly taken tap penalty from short range followed by an unconverted try in the corner stemming from a line out just outside the 22. Dinbych then dominated the final ten minutes of the half with Mold having to defend desperately forcing the visitors to  concede a sequence of penalties and resulting in two yellow cards. The referee finally lost patience awarding Dinbych a penalty try leaving Dinbych trailing by 17 points to 7 at the interval.

Mold increased the lead immediately following the restart with a converted try. Despite this setback the second half followed the same pattern as the first with Dinbych combining well and going through multiple phases of play but thwarted by a strong Mold defence. The visitors again made better use of their opportunities  adding  two further converted tries. Dinbych again dominated the final quarter with Mold under heavy pressure deep in their 22 and again conceding numerous penalties and the inevitable yellow cards with the referee again awarding Dinbych a penalty try in the closing minutes.
