Dinbych defeat spirited Green Army

Dinbych opened their league season with a bonus point victory against Abergele. Despite the final score this was a closely fought encounter with the visitors using their physicality to good effect and edging both possession and territory. However they found difficulty in defending against the pace and skilful running of Dinbych’s dangerous backs who scored all seven of their tries with man of the match Aidyn Jones leading with a hat trick. Dinbych’s forwards played their part as they worked hard against a bulkier pack with Ashley Liversage and Jamie Williams leading the fight in the loose.  Abergele started strongly as they dominated possession going through a number of multiple phase attacks deep in the Dinbych half with only a watertight defence keeping them at bay.  A missed penalty after ten minutes finally stirred Dinbych into action and a sweeping move from their own 22 ended with centre Tom Seddon going over wide out for an excellent try converted by skipper Dan O’Sullivan.  Abergele continued to compete fiercely and opened their account with an unconverted try by centre Joel Shacklady who finished off a well worked move from half way. Dinbych increased their lead when prop Ben Jackson intercepted a pass on hallway and offloaded to Aidyn Jones who ran through a disorganised defence for a try converted by Dan O’Sullivan. Aidyn Jones then added a second try in the corner after a sustained period of pressure from short range driving play by the forwards. Centre Gruff Roberts then crossed for Dinbych’s bonus point try in first half injury time wrong - footing a number of defenders in a mazy run from half way. Dan O’Sullivan converted to give Dinbych a 26 to 5 point lead at the interval.

Abergele again started the second half strongly and reduced the deficit after ten minutes when No.8 Rob Parry forced his way over for a try after peeling off a short range driving maul with full back Sam Henderson adding the conversion. Dinbych reacted immediately as they regained possession when the restart kick was knocked on and swift handling gave full back John Clouston the opportunity to cross for a try converted by Dan O’Sullivan. Gruff Roberts was then tackled just short of the Abergele line after a run from half way only for Dinbych to gather the relieving kick with wing Kieran Bonar going over in the corner for an unconverted try. Aidyn Jones then completed Dinbych’s scoring with his hat trick try as he came inside from a short range scrum to score under the posts with Dan O’Sullivan adding his fifth successful conversion. Abergele showed their character by continuing to attack and scoring their third try in injury time with Rob Parry forcing his way over after a short range maul with Sam Henderson again converting to close the match.
