Blues the victors in Vale of Clwyd derby.

In a pulsating local derby Ruthin claimed the victory although the final score did not reflect Dinbych’s ability to compete fiercely in most aspects of play throughout the match. The hosts however had the vital edge of capitalising on all their scoring opportunities whist at the same time being watertight in defence to deny any Dinbych score.

Ruthin had the better of the early exchanges and opened the scoring in the 8th minute when scrum half Chris Morgan sniped over for a try from a quickly taken short range tap penalty. Centre Nathan Jones added the conversion points.

Dinbych responded well with a series of attacks deep in the Ruthin 22 and went close to drawing level when right wing Kirean Bonar was stopped just short of the Ruthin line.

The remainder of the half was closely fought with Dinbych having more of the game territorially, Ruthin however looked more dangerous as a result of their cleaner set piece possession and their speed to the breakdown and close support play when the ball was recycled. Ruthin gained their reward scoring  in the last play of the first half when flanker Owain Jones broke through to finish an attack launched from just inside the Dinbych half. Nathan Jones again converted.

Leading by 14 points  at the interval Ruthin extended this with their third try in the first minute of the second half when anther long range attack from half way ended with left wing Gwion Richards crossing in the corner before rounding to touch down under the post leaving an easy conversion for Nathan Jones. Dinbych again responded well and came close to scoring after a period of heavy close range pressure when the forwards drove over the Ruthin line but failing to convince the referee of the touch down.

Ruthin then gradually gained the upper hand with Dinbych not helping their cause as they conceded too many penalties especially at the scrums which disrupted their attacking momentum.

Ruthin eventually closed the scoring in the final minutes when Gwion Richards broke through the centre deep in the Dinbych 22 to go over for his second try with Nathan Jones adding his fourth conversion to end an excellent derby encounter which was a credit to both teams.
