The long-awaited cup tie between Clwb Rygbi Dinbych 2nds and Deri was finally held at Caeau Les Phillips on Saturday having been postponed the previous two weekends due to adverse weather.
The visitors travelled with a strong squad and their dedicated coach arrived late having broken down on the M6 and completing his journey by Uber. Hopes were high for Dinbych with a full squad bolstered by the presence of Club Chairman David Haydock and the return of Harley Jones, Elgan Jones, Dafydd Morris, Endaf Waller, Dafydd Pierce-Evans and Sol Kerfoot Robson to the team.
The first half saw Deri playing uphill and successive strong runs by their forwards lead to an early lead with two tries scored and converted. Dinbych did manage a fight back with Captain Findlay Jenkins scoring a try converted by Ryan Devenport who also kicked a penalty leading to a score of 10-21 at the halfway point.
The second half was a rather one sided affair with playing downhill aiding Deri whose enterprising and powerful play saw them run in a series of tries as the defence of Dinbych faltered.
The final score was a disappointing 10-82 with Deri progressing to the next round where we wish them every success.
Although the result was a disappointment, it was a pleasure to see the seconds put a full squad out for the cup game and to see the club busy with the 1sts also at home facing Rhyl RFC.
We return to league duty on the 06.01.24 facing Clwb Rygbi'r Bala at home.
