Valiant effort from the youngsters unable to halt Rhos

Rhos scored seven tries to gain a bonus point victory in a free flowing high scoring game which produced a dozen tries and with the result in doubt until the dying minutes. A young Dinbych side was competitive throughout and gained a try bonus point as the crossed for five tries with right wing Tommy Jones scoring a hat trick.


Dinbych started well and opened the scoring after only five minutes when Tommy Jones went over in the corner for an unconverted try after outpacing the covering defence on a touchline run. After holding out against heavy pressure near their line Dinbych counterattacked from deep ending with Tommy Jones scoring his second try in the same corner which was converted with an excellent kick by Ryan Devenport.

Rhos eventually replies midway through the half after another period of heavy pressure with lock Dewi Hughes going over for a try under the posts leaving an easy conversion for scrum half Mike Jones. The visitors then drew level when they launched an attack from a scrum in the Dinbych 22 with Wing Arin Clarke going over for an unconverted try. Rhos went ahead on the stroke of half time with a try by centre Josh Stott converted by Mike Jones.


Trailing by 19 points to 12 at the interval Dinbych again started the second half well and drew level after only five minutes when they counter-attacked from their own 22 releasing Tommy Jones on halfway to kick ahead and win the race to touch down for his hat trick try converted by Ryan Devenport. Rhos replied immediately when lock Peter Nelhans forced his way over for a try converted by outside half Owen Jones who then added a penalty goal. Rhos went further ahead when Josh Stott went over for his second try converted by Mike Jones.


Dinbych responded with a fine passage of play involving good handling and support play ending with left wing Tom Wynne going over in the corner for an unconverted try. They closed the gap further with a breakaway try by Gethin Williams which brought them within one score of the visitors. Rhos however dominated the closing minutes and made the game safe when skipper and centre John Gormley broke from the side of a scrum just short of the Dinbych line to cross for a try converted by Mike Jones.
