Dinbych unable to keep pace with clinical Gefni

In ideal playing conditions Dinbych were still in the hunt at the interval but Llangefni proved stronger in the second half as they dominated the scoring with four unanswered tries to secure an emphatic victory. Visiting outside half Outside half Andrew McMinimee gave a man of the match display scoring three of the second half tries as well as kicking seven out of eight conversions for a match total of 29 points.

This game followed the pattern of several recent encounters in which Dinbych could not be faulted for their efforts but their opponent’s bulkier forwards used their physicality to pressurise the Dinbych scrum throughout whilst their support in close range pick and drives and mauls resulted in the majority of the visitor’s scores.

The match started with a spurt of scoring in the opening quarter of an hour. Llangefni were first to score in the 5th minute when centre Ioan Jones crossed for a try near the posts following forward drives from a short range line out. Andrew McMinimee added the conversion points. Dinbych replied immediately when centre Dan O’Sullivan kicked a penalty from 25 metres. Dinbych then took the lead with an attack down the left hand touchline from halfway by wing Will Jones with full back Efan Edwards going over in the corner for an unconverted try. The lead was short lived with Llangefni going ahead when No.8 Ieuan Evans finished a number of short range forward drives for a try again converted by McMinimee.

Midway through the half Dinbych again reduced the deficit with a penalty by outside half Garin Roberts but Llangefni extended their lead again when flanker Carrog Roberts forced his way over for a try following a short range line out. The visitors went further ahead when scrum half Aled Jones finished off a long range attack from beyond half way. McMinimee added the extras for both tries. Just before the interval Dinbych struck back again when Flanker Robin Williams finished off a forward drive from a short range line out with Garin Roberts adding the conversion points.

Leading by 28 points to 18 at half time Llangefni soon increased their lead when McMinimee went over for a try near the posts after a quickly taken tap penalty. He then scored his second try after a Dinbych attacking kick was charged down near halfway to outpace the home defender for a try near the corner which he then converted. Lock Cai Oliver then added another short range try converted by McMinimee before the same player ran in for his hat trick try after a Dinbych attack had broken down on half way. He added the conversion points to close the scoring.
